A Field Trip (Homeschool Style)

Recently, my family and I took an all-out homeschool field trip. We participated in an Environmental Living Program held at Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park in Pine Grove, California. At this park the largest collection of mortar holes in the nation is located. The program totaled two nights in bark huts, and one full day and two half days of activities. Among the activities
we did were acorn grinding, basket weaving, and a nature study walk. At each of the stations it became more clear that the Miwok Indian culture depended entirely on natural resources for survival. Many of the plants they used had multiple purposes and they wasted nothing. For example, soap root was not only used to wash clothing, the fibers were also used to make brushes. I must say that, after spending two days and nights camping in a bark hut,  I gained a greater appreciation for God's wonderful creation (and our modern beds:) Thanks Mom for taking me!
