Back to the books! One of my recent history readers was Animal Farm by George Orwell. This
short, classic book of American literature is an amazing allegory on Communism.
Basically, the story
is about a farm in England where the animals decide
that they don’t want to be controlled by humans any longer. They stage a
revolution against the farmer, drive him off the property, and set up their own
government based on equality for everyone. Soon, however, the socialist utopia
they envisioned begins to break down and the pigs end up making themselves the
leaders of a Communist society. (I’m not sure why Orwell chose pigs but okay. ;) The book presented
some very thought-provoking ideas and scary realizations about the dangers of
believing everything you hear. I would definitely recommend this as a must
read!
